Youth is the second single from Trawlerboy's upcoming EP - Elsewhere. The song reflects themes of nostalgia and happiness; despair and longing. The repetition of “What is the use of youth?” in the middle section expresses the prism of isolation through enveloping and lofty vocals layered over punctuated swaths of strings and piano melodies. Youth opens with the line “I’m tortured by all the happiness I felt,” reflecting on the daunting precarity of time slipping away and the fear of wasting it. The song escalates with the sinister and disquieting, but equally ecstatic phrase, “I’ll never be free.” Whether this is a proclamation or a question, is for us to decide.
I’m tortured
By all the happiness I’ve felt
In childhood
All the hours spent
By myself
And doesn’t it feel
So warm and surreal
And hasn’t it been
So long all these years
What’s the use of youth
What’s the use of you
What’s the use of youth
What’s the use of you
I’m tortured
By all the promise I've left
My body
A reflection of a sketch
How can I
Break the bows of borrowed time
For once i’ll find
What was shrouded
Beneath the sheltered sky
How can I
Burn the book
My blood gave life
I’ll never be free
I’ll never be free
Oh I’ll never be free
Oh I’ll never be free
Oh I’ll never be free
I’ll never Be
What’s the use of youth
What’s the use of you
What’s the use of youth
What’s the use of you
coming soon...
